Overcoming PPB... Post Break-up Blues
Some people are great at breakups. Others really struggle with the loss. If you have a hard time after a split, keep reading for suggestions on how to get out of the funk.
1. Make a clean break
This will give you a chance to feel your feelings. Staying connected in any way keeps the pain of the relationship and breakup alive. It is a wonderful intention to want to stay friends with a previous partner; however, in order to do so, you need space to heal so that your friendship isn't muddled with old feelings.
2. Avoid rumination
Cows chew the cud, they swallow and regurgitate their food and chew it again. This is called the process of rumination. Repeatedly thinking over the same situation without coming to a conclusion. This can lead to a lot of pain. Staying busy can keep your mind off of the loss. Try coming up with some new goals, whether it's fitness or a new hobby, tailor your new life without your partner to your specific needs.
3. Lean on your support system
Turn to your family and friends. Hopefully, they don't suck and will help you heal from the breakup. Sometimes, when we are in romantic relationships our other relationships are not a priority. Your breakup might be an opportunity to reconnect with friends.
