Confidence

Are you struggling with confidence? Let’s talk about some ways that you can improve yours!

  1. Challenge those cognitive distortions. Challenge the thoughts in your head that say you aren’t enough-- the ones that make you feel small and awful. Don’t listen to the thoughts in your head that say you aren’t smart, beautiful, talented, or kind. Those thoughts are not reality. If you listen to those thoughts, you can actually begin to make those ideas become your reality; shift your mindset now! When you have a negative thought, replace it with a positive thought.

A therapy that helps to effectively push back against cognitive distortions and thinking errors is called Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). If you would like to schedule an appointment with Jacent Wamala, LMFT for CBT please click here

  2. Affirmations are my best friend. Whenever thoughts begin to creep in like, “This cashier person looks really intimidating. I am so scared to talk to her,” then I can say to myself, “I am a worthy person. I am a confident person. I am a kind person. Even if she is mean, that does not say anything about me.” The world can be a critical place already, you don’t need to be critical, too (especially about yourself).

  3. Dress for success. Personally, I don’t get ready for the day very often-- especially since COVID happened. However, I do notice that whenever I get ready for the day, I feel way more confident and able to be productive. This is an easy tip for you to feel more confident while doing something small!
