Money and Marriage

April is National Financial Literacy Month: in an effort to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach Americans how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits.

What am I talking about finances when I’m a therapist, well, here’s why. Finances are the number one cause of arguments amongst couple and families as well as the number one reason people split and get divorced. Therefore this becomes a topic for me as a Relational Therapist because my clients come to sessions with this as one of the main issues. Couples that get on the same page regarding 4 key topics stay together long and experiences higher rates of relational satisfaction. I will go over what those 4 key areas are in a future blog so make sure to sign up for the mailing list to be notified. Finances are one of the keys factors that highly effect relationship success.

When a couple discusses and agrees about finances, they are discussing and agreeing on a collective vision for their lives together and their future. It’s interesting that people do individual vision boards and there are vision board parties the hoopla about new year New Me, where do you relationships fall in that? Do you sit down and have regular or even annual conversations with your partner(s) about your collective vision for the year, for each quarter and create action items to make those things happen. That’s where I come in.

Let’s be honest, most of us know how to get in shape for the most part. Create a health plan that includes diet and exercise as well as a shift in mindset and carry it out consistently to see progress. However, even though we know that sometimes we still have to enlist the assistance of a trainer. What does a trainer do? They help to define clear goals and collaborate on a road map to your desired designation. They might join you in the gym and encourage you along the way. That’s how I see my role as a marriage and family therapist. I want to join you to find clarity, create a roadmap and execute results. Leave a comment below with other obstacles you’ve heard of or experienced for relationship success. can’t wait to hear from you
